Airbnb to block Washington D.C. reservations during Joe Biden’s inauguration.
Airbnb on Wednesday made it a public consumption and announced that it will cancel reservations in the Washington, D.C. metro area during the week of US President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
The cancellation came in response to various local, state and federal officials urging people not to travel to the capital.
In the company’s statement: “we will prevent any new reservations in the Washington, D.C. area from being booked during that time by blocking such reservations”
Airbnb has also identified numerous individuals who are either affiliated with known hate groups or otherwise involved in criminal activity in the Capitol Building on Jan. 6 and banned them from its platform.
“We are continuing our work to ensure hate group members are not part of the Airbnb community,’’ the company stated.
Guests whose reservations are canceled will be refunded in full. The company will also reimburse hosts for the money they would have earned from these canceled reservations at Airbnbs expense. HotelTonight reservations will also be canceled, according to the announcement. Airbnb is essentially an online marketplace. which involves the rental of property to travelers.
It does not own any property, it simply provides a platform from which people can rent their property or guest rooms to guests.
