The office of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration And Control, NAFDAC was invaded by hoodlums who carted away seized drugs and beverages in the early hour of today.
The affected offices include the NAFDAC warehouse belonging to the investigation and enforcement directorate, as well as the training and research institute for the Northern region and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, according to Channels Television.
The drugs were said to have been seized from illicit drug Peddlers meant for destruction.
Nevertheless, the Kaduna State government has warned on health risks, over the drugs and beverages looted from the NAFDAC office and other warehouses in Kaduna, the state capital.
Samuel Aruwan, the State Commissioner For Internal Security, in a statement, said the looted items, which include expired, prohibited, hard drugs and dangerous drugs, pose a great danger to the health of the people, warning that persons who consume such drugs are at great risk of serious illness and death and can lead to mental disorder.
One Aruwan disclosed that the management of a food processing company whose stores were looted in the Kakuri area of Kaduna South Local Government, revealed that “the stolen grains have been treated with chemical preservatives, which render them unsafe for consumption.”
He implored residents to be vigilant and careful about the source of the food and medications they take and where they buy them, to avoid the dangers because the could be drugs carted away by the hoodlums
The commissioner also appealed to the public for information on the identities of the looters and where they might be hiding the stolen items.
